Barbie Birthday Party

by Colleen Hefner

Barbie birthday party My only granddaughter had requested a Barbie birthday party this past year so being the grandma that loves to plan parties I set out to do just that.

I picked the Barbie theme that was very colorful and included flowers in the scheme. The colors were a very "bright" hot pink, lime green, and yellow. I covered a round table with a hot magenta tablecloth and overlaid it with an emerald green tablecloth. I pulled up the green cloth in about 4 equal places around the table and tied it up with bows made of matching crepe paper.

I used pink 8" plates for the lunch, 7" themed plates for the cake and themed napkins. The cups were green and the utensils were pink.

A themed cardboard purse served as the treat bag. The treats included: plastic star-shaped kiddie sunglasses, mini rainbow magic springs, 32" plastic iridescent dress-up beads, nail stickers and ice cream/soda note pads.

Children's birthday party ideas

When the guests arrived they were given plastic visors in assorted colors. At the activity table I had laid out several different buttons, beads, glitter, flowers and markers. Using a glue gun (with adult supervision) each guest decorated her visor and wrote her name on it.

I made the cake in the shape of a round flower. Bake 2 - 8" cakes. Cut one into eight equal triangles. Cut the narrow tips off of the triangle and place the wide side next to the round cake (thus forming the petals). I colored white frosting hot pink for the center 8" cake and the petals were a lime green. Around the outer edge of the center cake and the petals I placed pastel M&M's.

I made a balloon topiary for the centerpiece using a terra cotta pot painted to match the color scheme. Instructions: Place a styrofoam block in the pot and insert a dowel that had been painted lime green. Place colorful shred in the pot to hide the styrofoam. Use 6 balloons that match the theme. Tie two balloons together and twist around the dowel half way up and continue with the other four. Tie a pull-bow at the bottom of the balloons. Curl matching ribbon and drape down through the balloons.

My granddaughter was absolutely thrilled with her Barbie party and so were her friends. When all had gone home she came over and gave me a big hug and kiss and said,

"Grandma, that was my bestest party ever!"
